MIRA 新伝統 presents a monthly series ‘Tragic Rave’. Musical tales, rituals and propaganda from Japan subterraneans.

For this episode, we receive Elin McCready, researcher, and professor of Semantics and Linguistics at Aoyama Gakuin University and co-founder of the WAIFU queer parties.

She will give us a talk during the first part of the show. Questioning the notion of freedom while taking us through her journey in Japan and the difficulties she encountered being a trans woman in the current political situation as well as the conservatism that still exists in some part of the local LGBT community.

For this show, we are partnering with our friends and allies Adults Play who made the background mix for Elin’s monologue.

MIRA 新伝統 is a Tokyo based performance and audiovisual production unit created by Honami Higuchi and Raphael Leray.After their first project, the short movie “ Torque ” released in 2019 on the viennese label AMEN , they’ve takenon the club scene, introducing performance art and rituals to the Tokyo rave crowd. 

They are also currently art directors for the Asian branch of the art platform Ultrasudio .

Dahjyn (fka Tengu Yawn) is the fragmented sonic run off of Dan Ahrendt, a haphazard genre-bending musician originally from Salem, Oregon. After half a life lived between Tacoma and Seattle in the Pacific NorthWest of the U.S.A, years of experience in bands and local music merged with a moment of intense physical trauma, leading to a search for control, escape, and exploration through mutated electronic formats.

During his time in Seattle he performed in club and DIY settings, transforming and boldening a dark, vocal driven mingling of noisey industrial pummeling and ephemeral song. In 2019, he relocated to Brooklyn, NY in order to further expand upon the shambling, audible effigy born from violent denial of the mundane.

FRKTL is the solo experimental project of British-Egyptian interdisciplinary artist Sarah Badr. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, she works with live sampling and improvisation, vocal manipulation, field recordings and generative rhythms to compose intensely emotive and immersive explorations of sound. Her sets and mixes blend disparate styles seamlessly, challenging preconceptions of tradition and geography. FRKTL’s critically acclaimed sixth release and third full-length album, Excision After Love Collapses, marks nearly a decade of independent, self-published works — available now through Bandcamp.

İstanbul based producer, organizer, and DJ violentemres currently works on his debut EP, plays online gigs & hosts radio shows, as well as continuing his research on VR-based musical events at Istanbul Technical University’s the Center for Advanced Studies in Music department.
