Strange Interactions

Strange Interactions is a DJ-duo, party and electronic music label consisting of Melbourne-based artists Yangos & Rita Bass.

Having conjoined forces in 2019 to embark on the adventure of exploring sonic worlds together, Strange Interactions are now bass-heads that maneuver the darker side of the underground. Their sound is best suited to murky dancefloors late at night where you can hear them spin jungle, bass, dubstep and beyond; throwing in the occasional rap and grime for good measure.

Their expertise on the dancefloor has earned them a place on lineups such as Hopkins Creek Festival, 2 Degrees Festival, Brunswick Music Festival After Party, Local Knowledge, Steel City Dance Discs and more beloved parties and events across Victoria.

Though beat-driven music compels their DJ sets, in their HKCR show ‘Reconnect’ Strange Interactions swerve away from the mania, instead focussing on slower and more reflective sounds. ‘Reconnect’ was founded on the idea of exploring Eastern music, honing into Yang and Rita’s respective Chinese and Russian heritage in a bid to connect to their ancestry.

They have invited guests from across the globe to do the same, inviting a space for considered listening and introspection. Some of their past guests include Sakura Tsuruta from Tokyo, Zwi based in Hanoi, Kamna in Naarm (Melbourne) and beyond.

You can also catch Yang and Rita as their alter ego ‘Strange Attractions’ where they share the lighter sounds they still enjoy including anything from left-field house to g-funk and jazz.
