Happy Together: Sugar Ross X Blackphone 666 – 19/04/2021

For this month’s edition of Happy Together I am excited to announce that I am joined by one of my favourite noise artists, Japan’s Blackphone666.

黒電話666 A.K.A Blackphone666 is a noise musician and visual artist from Nakano, Tokyo, Japan, who has been making Extreme electric sound radicals since 2001, and is known for the iconic use of a traditional old style Japanese black telephone in the creation of his intricate, harsh but also booming noise/ sound assaults.

I’ve used a piece recorded by Blackphone666 in 2015 called ‘ACQUIRED’, that he kindly re-mastered and sent to me to use for this piece of HKCR.
I’ve broken his track into multiple sections and combined it with a collection of my own improvised recordings, titled ‘Orbital Data 000001’, and then set the entire piece to a pitched down recording taken from the back streets of a sleepy Australian country town.

Orbital Data is recorded entirely using the Virtual Synthesiser ‘Quadrivium’ which uses real time orbital data from the 12 moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune to modulate and create music across four oscillators.
