Weather Predictions with Blood Lotus – 06/05/2024

Blood Lotus is the music project of Hannah Wu, who fuses club, experimental R&B, avant-garde pop, ambient and traditional Chinese instruments to push the sonic parameters of genre. She constructs spectral worlds where the past and future collide in motion; intimate vocals flutter over shapeshifting beats, scaffolded by oscillating synths and glistening strings. With a focus on collaboration, she has worked closely with Kuya Neil, Ryan Fennis and Voidhood to produce her debut album, slated to be released with CONTENT.NET.AU in 2024. She also makes ambient music in collaboration with poet Panda Wong, under the moniker Lotus Threads.

R9FIA Radio w/ Swimful – 14/05/2024

Swimful is a Northumbrian producer whose work encompasses the outer limits of grime and club music.

Cutting his teeth in Shanghai’s now-legendary venue The Shelter, Swimful’s sound was shaped in the city’s club scene as part of the emergent SVBKVLT crew. Spurred on by support from the UK’s Boxed crew, his first release on SVBKVLT, 2016’s PM2.5, was played extensively on stations like Rinse FM and Radio 1.

Production for vocalists continued in the intervening period, honing the blissful cloud rap edges that began when Swimful was producing tracks for Lil B and Main Attrakionz while still in school. 2019’s “Folding Knives” was a meeting between this early approach and newfound club sensibilities, with lead single “Agony” refracting dancehall and afroswing through the lens of noise-washed shoegaze.

In 2022, Swimful returned to SVBKVLT with the “Rushlight” EP – a club-collision of drill and amapiano – and started a residency on Rinse FM, where he showcases his own productions alongside cutting-edge sounds from Shanghai and beyond.

Lujiachi
An experimental electronic DJ/producer from Taipei, is a prominent figure in Taiwan’s revolutionary electronic music scene. Regularly found in influential venues such as Final, Lujiachi has even been invited to the Amsterdam Dance Event and has toured extensively in countries like Japan, China, UK and Netherlands. In 2022, Lujiachi released the EP “Mantis” under the Taiwanese avant-garde label OverMyBody. This EP, firmly rooted in the textures of Techno and Industrial genres, features powerful percussion-driven sounds with minimal emphasis on melody, capturing Lujiachi’s distinctive musical aesthetics when performing under his own name.

Lujiachi’s musical journey has been diverse. He was a member of the Drone Metal band Scattered Purgatory and, together with Jon Du, formed the side project LUDU, which seamlessly blends the dual personalities of digital synthesis and sample processing. This duality is evident in Lujiachi’s music, showcased through works like “0”, released under Hong Kong label Absurd Trax, and his contribution to Sea Cucumber, a label under Tzusing, in the “FINAL Taipei Compilation.” In 2024, Lujiachi collaborated with Argentine producer Bungalovv on the joint album “Apex Union”, delving deeper into digital sound modulation. Lujiachi has continued to experiment and fuse various electronic elements, encompassing genres from metal and heavy/high-speed dance music to IDM and Taiwanese-style rave.
