SOVBLKPSSY (they/them) is a queer Ngarrindjeri, Ramindjeri and Walkandi-woni musician and DJ based in Naarm, so-called Melbourne. Over the last year or so, they’ve solidified themselves as a weapon behind the decks, weaving songs of resistance in with hefty club cuts.

Outside of their work in music, they volunteer for Wuurn of Kanak LandBack initiative.

黑芝麻(Hēi zhī ma) [they/she] a sound artist based on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country. A master of building emotion and narrative within their sets, 黑芝麻 weaves spoken word, poetry, and film samples into multi-genre soundscapes with elements of experimental ambient, pop/RnB, jungle, and trance/techno. They draw on topics of cultural identity and belonging, sensuality, and queer longing. In their other project, 莎瑜 (ShaYu), 黑芝麻 works alongside poet Zhi Yi Cham, creating work focusing on coming to terms with queerness, queerness in the context of cultural identity and love.

Over the lockdown period in Naarm (Melbourne), dj mum did a mini-series of shows called ‘mum’s ambience’ featuring guests Kāmna and Jane. This series of shows is still one of my favourites to turn to when I’m looking for a moment of solace. A member of Naarm based collective, Local Knowledge – dj mum is a staple on local events as she brings a refreshing variety of sounds, tastefully combining a plethora of genres into a set.
