Ruhail Qaisar

Ruhail Qaisar is a self-taught artist from Ladakh. His work focuses on sound-creation, left-field art, analog photography, and experimental filmmaking.

Exhibiting a vessel of memory through sonic inscription and the incorporation of unconscious gestures and improvisation. The work serves to transmit memories carried through habits and local mythos as developed through his recollections of growing up in the older section of Leh, India. His legacy is one of fear, mortal-horror, pain, and longing in the minds of the audience.

Nearly communicable aspects of individual experience and its immersions into a collective memory and a perception rode by a yearning for purity, which colors the memory blind.

Experience being substantial to the interpretation of culture as well as the memory, especially the transmission of traumatic memory through an intergenerational medium, remembered through lineage, a reservoir of resonances, as a debt to the past—assimilation of tragic historical legacy transmuted and transformed into dreamlike pieces of audial hallucinations.
