For the next episode, we’ve invited the Malaysian based DJ & producer Syukri A Rahim aka Digital Angel as our next guest for Sounds of A Post Apocalyptic Landscape. 

Fresh off his latest release titled Santau where Digital Angel lays an ethereal-like foundation with heavy synth stabs and heavy bass riffs, he depicts a chaotic yet blissful environment in this month’s episode. From abrasive drums to the angelic vocals of Bjork, he pieces together somewhat of a systematic chaos.

Vermillion is a project that emerged in mid-2016 with the idea of representing landscapes and stories about various aspects of Asian and
Latin American culture. Formally, the project is composed through field recording and editing processes in DAW’s. In 2017 Vermillion made
an instrument with recycled materials, bass strings and a piezo electric (Contact mics). From there I began to focus on creating these “sounds”
through these instruments with the help of contact microphones to amplify and process them.

Happy Together: Sugar Ross X Blackphone 666 – 19/04/2021

For this month’s edition of Happy Together I am excited to announce that I am joined by one of my favourite noise artists, Japan’s Blackphone666.

黒電話666 A.K.A Blackphone666 is a noise musician and visual artist from Nakano, Tokyo, Japan, who has been making Extreme electric sound radicals since 2001, and is known for the iconic use of a traditional old style Japanese black telephone in the creation of his intricate, harsh but also booming noise/ sound assaults.

I’ve used a piece recorded by Blackphone666 in 2015 called ‘ACQUIRED’, that he kindly re-mastered and sent to me to use for this piece of HKCR.
I’ve broken his track into multiple sections and combined it with a collection of my own improvised recordings, titled ‘Orbital Data 000001’, and then set the entire piece to a pitched down recording taken from the back streets of a sleepy Australian country town.

Orbital Data is recorded entirely using the Virtual Synthesiser ‘Quadrivium’ which uses real time orbital data from the 12 moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune to modulate and create music across four oscillators. 

The artwork for this episode is a film shot I took in Japan of a live Blackphone666 performance in Tokyo, 2016.

The Hounds of Pamir invites AFALFL aka Mamady Diarra all the way from Mauritania, currently based in Paris.

The producer/ live coder applies the open-source software TidalCycles create by Alex Mc Lean. Drawing from drum machines, and synthesizers through computer code, he came to understand music from his own point of view, with a strong mood for heavy beats based on free improvisation.

Along with sound designer and programmer Alienated Entity from Paraguay who has explored sound in different ways since 2015.Using a variety of mediums to create his works such as analog and digital synthesizers, pedals, field recordings, sampling, and programming code. Going through dense and chaotic atmospheres cascading again to the contemplative and the sublime.
