howrøng recorded this mix as ‘love letter to endless return raves’, think of it as a mixtape given to a crush but if the crush was endless return. When they think of endless return, they think of internet generation meets South-East Asia (SEA) rave sounds, unabashedly contrary soundscapes, break-noise core coded pop-edits. Their mix features artists and friends of endless that have been invited by endless before, as well as tracks from endless’ first compilation that have been invited by endless before, rEmPiT g0dDe$$, San Jonas, Mervin Wong, Terms and Conditions.

As a resident DJ and co-founder of queer collective ‘Bussy Temple’, howrøng’s work in Bussy Temple aims to explore queer futurity at raves and what it means to create raves for femme trans and queer in Singapore and SEA. Their style can be described as a journey through techno, deconstructed club, breakcore and hardcore with selections from labels such as SVBKVLT, Mama told ya, Mord Records, and also music from local artists in south east and east asia such as Tzusing, Xhin and rEmPiT g0dDe$$.

ENDLESS RETURN IN RETROGRADE: Dëḿǒns by Mervin Wong & XUE – 27/05/2024

Endless Return (ER) is a small music platform from Singapore run by butoh dancer XUE and artist/producer Mervin Wong. ER rejects capitalist event structures, opting instead for gatherings that prioritise creative exploration over financial motives.

ER happenings cannibalise and iterate on themselves in the form of eternal Returns — unique events that allow for exciting artistic intersections across art, music and performance. Initially conceived during the pandemic as a virtual rave, ER has evolved into a music label and experimental series dedicated to charting the sonic badlands of Singapore and Southeast Asia.

ER is dedicated to unearthing and showcasing the most subversive of the Singapore underground and like-minded regional acts. ER recent releases include “Parodyse City” (2023) by Singaporean DJ and producer Vangoth666. ER has been featured on publications like Mixmag Asia, Female Magazine Singapore and Life in Arpeggio and was also the recipient of a Creative Grant by Refraction Festival in 2022. ER has also been a resident with Hong Kong Community Radio for the past two years and running.

Formed in 2018 in Yogyakarta by Yahya Dwi Kurniawan, Uji Hahan Handoko, Lana Pranaya & Rangga Sang Eshayoga, Bagas Oktariyan Ananta, & Dito Satriawan. Prontaxan are known for their electrifying and high powered live sets, a potent catharsis from the pressures of contemporary society. Prontaxan believes that to dance is a basic human need and they are committed to bringing the spirit of party and celebration wherever they go.

In an era of information overload and ease of access to technology, PRONTAXAN trawls YouTube and the interweb for obscure and forgotten music, utilizing MP3 controllers, microphones for recall and repetition, sampling and remixing lost favorites. This curation of verses echoed by PRONTAXAN is in celebration of the complexity of electronic music in SEA, blending dangdut, campursari and the native sounds of the Archipelago — more popularly known as Funkot. PRONTAXAN’s choice of Funkot explores the implications of music consumption and its relationship to social class.
